Summer Experiences in Greater Lowell
Since 2000, Summer Experiences in Greater Lowell, or SEGL, has provided children in our community with enriching summer learning and recreational experiences when school is closed. Last year, the initiative provided approximately $96,000 to 15 Greater Lowell agencies. Since its inception, SEGL has invested $770,000 into the community. Through SEGL, more than 3,000 children participated in quality summer programs, developing leadership, social and academic skills that will empower them for life.
SEGL is thankful for the generous support of The Theodore Edson Parker Foundation and Lantheus Medical Imaging, whose 2007 golf tournament raised 40% of the total contributions for this valuable initiative.
SEGL benefits us all
- Children are safe, productive and continue learning during the summer. This helps close the achievement gap between those who can afford summer programs and those who cannot.
- Working families have quality, affordable daycare during the summer months.
- Community organizations have the additional funding they need to meet the increasing demand for summer programs. Diversity is fostered by bringing a wide range of children from different cultural and economic backgrounds to learn and play together.
